Peter Grubb Hut

Peter Grubb Hut lies in a bowl, bounded on the north by Basin Peak (shown in the photo above) and on the east by Castle Peak. The nearest road during winter is I-80, 3 miles to the south at Donner Summit.

Accessible only over snow in winter, it has been a favorite with back- country skiers and snowshoers since it was built in the late 1930's. The hut sleeps 15 comfortably and serves as a convenient base for Winter Sportsists to explore Castle Peak, Basin Peak, and Sand Ridge Lakes.

This hut is equipped with a wood-burning stove, but food, supplies and bedding must be carried in. The hut is used extensively during the winter, and reservations should be made before planning an overnight trip.

Bradley Hut

The Bradley Hut is located near upper Pole Creek, it accommodates about 15 overnight visitors. skiing and snowshoeing are possible in the bowls and meadows near the hut and in the Deep Creek drainage to the north. Access to the hut is from Forest Road 8, you have a gradual accent of 1500' over 5 miles located at 7550'.

Ludlow Hut

The hut is located on the west side of Lake Tahoe, six miles up McKinney Creek to Richardson Lake. Total elevation gain is about 1000'; the cabin is at 7400'. Parking may be available at the end of Rubicon Ave. or at Sugar Pine Point State Park. Sleeping for 15 upstairs on a wood floor.

Benson Hut

The hut is located six miles south of Donner Pass Road under the north face of Anderson Peak at about 8350'. Ski mountaineering skills are required for this trip; the route is treacherous in bad weather. You ascend a steep 1200' gain from Lake Mary to Mt. Lincoln via the Lincoln-Judah saddle. Sugar Bowl and other lands along the route are private property. You can park at Clair Tappaan Lodge or Sugar Bowl. The hut holds about 12; fold-out bunk beds downstairs, wood floor upstairs.
